In the Light

In the Light Praise Team

Psalm 33:3 Sing to the Lord a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy.

What we do

We proclaim God’s love and truth through music every Sunday.  We lead His people into worship.  We view music as a way for people to connect with God: to bless God, and to be blessed by Him.  We typically lead five worship songs Sunday mornings at 9:00 church.  We strive for excellence in all we do because God deserves nothing less than our best.

Who is involved

Vocalists, instrumentalists, and support specialists – adults and youth.  Being a vocalist is a very serious commitment.  The number of vocalist spots is limited and as openings arise, new vocalists may be brought in by a process of audition, interview, invitation and a trial period.  It is preferred that vocalists have previous solo vocal experience from the SMPC Choir, a school choir, community theater, school musical, or something similar.  We are always looking for instrumentalists: guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums.  For instrumentalists, the process is less formal.  Generally it involves sitting in on one or more rehearsals to see if it is a good fit for you and us.  We are always looking for volunteers to be trained as support specialists, namely sound engineers and multimedia technicians.  Sound engineers need to have a good ear for music as they will be working to adjust the levels on the sound board.  Multimedia technicians operate the computer and projectors for the song lyrics, scripture readings, sermon outlines, and any special videos.

When we meet

We typically have rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, 8:30 to about 9:30 or 10:00.  We also rehearse Sunday mornings at 8:00.  This ministry runs year-round.
