The Deacon’s are an elected group of 15 members of the church, dedicated to serving the church and community.  Members serve on a variety of committees as they serve a 3 year term. Two consecutive terms may be served. The term “deacon” comes from the Greek term diakonos, and simply means servant. The Deacons of Saxonburg Memorial Church believe it is our privilege to serve, through a vaiety of activities, to the body of Christ.

Helping Hands: Helping Hands is a quiet ministry. Most of its works remain as confidential matters between the Chairperson and the Pastor. Deacons host several fund raisers throughout the year in an effort to raise funds to provide financial assistance for emergency situation, shelter, clothing, transportation, or holiday meals to individuals or families in need. Recipients may be from the Church and/or the Community. A food cupboard is maintained for those in need. The Deacons also coordinate meals for families facing hospitalization, serious illness, or the birth of a new baby.

Prayer Committee: The prayer committee is a ministry of prayer warriors. All prayer requests are called into the committee chairperson who is printed in the weekly bulletin. The chairperson passes on the request via email or a phone chain.  Volunteers may be deacons and/or members of the congregation. Members intercede on behalf of others in need by lifting up specific requests, concerns, emergency, and praise situations to God. Requests are kept confidential.

Communion Committee: The Deacon members of the Communion Committee assist the church family in the observance of the Lord’s Supper by maintaining an adequate inventory of materials and supplies, preparing the elements of communion and overseeing the gathering, cleaning and storing of equipment after each observance.

Special Projects: The Deacons on the Special Projects committee organize several special projects throughout the year, such as:

  • Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
  • Thanksgiving Cheer Baskets
  • Annual Church Garage Sale
  • Christmas Cookie/Bake Sale
  • Preperation of Funeral Dinners

Reception Committee: The Reception Committee is responsible to organize cookie & cake receptions for new members, graduates, celebrations and other special receptions. The committee purchases supplies for punch, bakes cookies, and welcomes homemade cookies from the congregation.

Flower Committee: The Flower Committee makes arrangements for flowers to be present i the church for all regular and special services. Special displays are always in place for the Christmas and Easter celebrations making a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere.
